AAIP Tourism and Hospitality Stream

Alberta’s tourism and hospitality sector is a vital engine of the province’s economy, driven by the dedication of skilled workers like you. Recognizing this contribution, the Tourism and Hospitality Stream was launched under the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) to help temporary foreign workers transition to permanent residency.

At Career Plus Immigration, we understand the unique challenges service professionals face in the immigration system. Whether you are a chef, a hotel front desk clerk, or a tour guide, we provide the legal clarity and structured guidance you need to turn your hard work into a permanent future in Canada.

The Tourism and Hospitality Stream is specifically designed for workers employed in eligible occupations within Alberta’s tourism sector. Applicants are generally required to have a valid job offer from an approved Alberta employer, along with relevant work experience in the province. Meeting minimum language proficiency standards and demonstrating the ability to economically establish in Alberta are also key components of eligibility.

Employers play an important role in this stream, as they must meet specific criteria and support the application process. This makes it essential for both the employer and employee to ensure all documentation is accurate and complete. Any inconsistencies or missing details can result in delays or refusals.

What is the Tourism and Hospitality Stream?

The Tourism and Hospitality Stream is a specialized pathway designed to help Alberta employers retain experienced workers in this high-demand sector. It allows the province to nominate eligible foreign nationals who are already working full-time in Alberta for an approved tourism and hospitality employer.

Who is this for?
This stream is specifically for individuals who:

  • Are currently working in Alberta in an eligible tourism or hospitality occupation.
  • Have a valid full-time job offer from an approved Alberta employer.
  • Meet the specific work experience requirements within the sector.

To qualify for nomination, you and your employer must meet strict criteria at the time your application is submitted.

  • Sector Association Membership: The employer must be a member of a recognized sector association, such as the Alberta Hotel and Lodging Association, Restaurants Canada, or Indigenous Tourism Alberta.

2. Eligible Occupations

  • This experience must be paid and in the same occupation as your current job offer.

4. Job Offer Requirements

You must have a valid job offer or employment contract from your current employer.

  • The offer must be for full-time, continuous employment (30+ hours/week).

6. Education Standards

You must have completed a minimum of a high school diploma equivalent to Canadian standards.
